Can any people using Suncorp for their Landlord policies give me some feedback on what they're like to deal with - specifically in regards to rent default, and malicious damage claims etc.

I use Suncorp and had a cooker set on fire recently....

I contacted Suncorp and they asked me to send out an electrician who simply went there, faxed Suncorp and then Suncorp organised a brand new cooker!

Very efficient, however I did have a 300 excess!

I am not sure about the landlord policy but I found them reasonable and cheap!

I insure through Suncorp as well. Haven't claimed yet. Here is a handy site.

They claim to be a resource for dispute resolution. Most of the big insurers/underwriters are participating companies.

As a last resort if you are not getting satisfaction from your insurer they may help with resolving disputes between you and your insurance company. Think of them as plan 'B'. Kinda like insurance for insurance companies haha!:D

Never tried them yet. Haven't had the need too.

I do personal injuries work and I think that Suncorp is the best for settling their claims in a reasonable and efficient manner, well as good as insurers get.

Can't comment on landlords insurance though.

We have all of our policies with Suncorp, as yet have not had to use the Landlord insurance side.

A couple of years ago we had a slow internal leak from the shower plumbing which ended up leaking thru to the next bedroom and wrecking the carpet. Would have been less damage if the tenant have had told someone sooner, but not to worry. Had no problems at all with making the claim, quick with their tradies, fixed the problem leak, repaired the wall, repaint etc and all new carpet. No worries at all. :) Mark

I searched because I wanted to ask the same question, "What are Suncorp like when it comes time to make a claim".

I have all my IP's insured with Suncorp and after reading some of the horror stories, I'd like to know if they are acceptable, or if I should switch before the need to claim arises...

It's been 3 years since this thread started. Any more comments or experiences to share?

I just took out policies with Suncorp - I was attracted to the flood cover and overall I thought they looked pretty good. No claim experience yet obviously so I'd be interested in responses to this also

I have just changed most of mine to Suncorp as well, after being screwed with another insurer.

I moved across after a story I heard with a family members IP. Fantastic. Suncorp even paid for loss of rent while the guys went in and fixed up the house for 2 months before getting it back on the market.

Who did you move away from and was there a price difference between the 2 policies?

Hi Bill,

Moved away from Real Insurance, due to having about 10 properties insured through them, and forking out diligently every month without any questions asked.

I have been awaiting a claim for over 8 months, and it was due to a number of reasons, have complained, received a small compensation from them after alot of hair pulling, and have since parted ways. (Someone else can take my $5000 / year)

Suncorp was a bit more expensive for my PPOR, and funnily enough for another duplex property, but apart from that, all good.

I have better piece of mind with Suncorp, considering the story I have been told from a family member.

As always, will pay my dues diligently, and I guess the only time I will see how good they really are, is when I am in the unfortunate situation of making a claim.

Cheers,

F

When you have that many policies it would be good if you could find an insurer who could package something together for you to cover liability and malicious damage.

You could then self insure against rent loss with the savings you make.
I meant to look into this but I haven't had the time so let me know if you come up with a cheap option.

cheers
