Hello guys, long time no post!!:p

Question for those that know and love Victoria. I am in the planning stages of a country drive holiday (with the added purpose of scoping some land) In Victoria and need help.

I will freely admit that Im a coffee/wine and food snob and was after some suggestions of cool Vic country towns that have those great amenities, as well as being within striking distance (2hours) of melbourne.

Any ideas?

kyneton is supposed to be pretty cool...was on Postcards show yesterday. They have a lot of cafes and restaurants doing the local produce thing, sounded good, it's on my list to visit!

I highly recommend the Yarra Valley from Coldstream thru Healesvile. Domaine Chandon is very nice Yerring Station, De Bortoli and numerous other wineries and eating places.

Similarly for the Mornington Peninsula down around Red Hill and Dromana.

Not that familair with what is out Kyneton way however Mt. Macedon and Wood End and Gisborne may be worth a visit. Definitely Daylesford and maybe Catlemaine are worth a visit.

You could also head down Geelong way and beyond to the Bellarine and Great Ocean Road precincts.

My goodness, can you spare 12 months?, (and that's just an intro tour).:p

It's a shame you can't work the state, even up beyondthe central Vic cut off point of within 2 hours, some great sights and stuff up further north...never mind, another time, and there are lots of places to keep you interested anyway. Just pick east, west, or northish. (From Melbourne).

Wineries, restaurants around Bendigo region:

Pyrenees region:

Avoca more specifically:

Beautiful Yarra Valley region, (Shedferd festival coming up Oct):

Mornington Peninsula Region:

The beautiful Macedon Ranges:

Daylesford just itself:

One of my favorite places, (probably getting a bit further afield than you may want)..Grampians area/Great Western:

One of my favorite areas in the world...Along the Great Ocean Road, for it's people, it's food, it's wineries, it's incredibly beautiful rainforests, quaint little towns, the sea...

I think I should stop, it's making me homesick....lovesick..too much to choose from, and I've only scraped the surface.

Have fun.

I nearly committed the unforgivable, forgetting Brown Bros Land, (my SIL wants to be buried in the vineyard there, I'm to sneak her corpse in, spade in hand...dead of night, and bury in b/w the vines)...gods of white wine...the north east region:

Choices, choices...

This is definitely on my shortlist:

Tamar Valley Wine Route

The north's major city, Launceston, has recreated itself and now has some of Australia's top restaurants and stylish places to stay. It also offers the visitor the chance to experience some of Tasmania's wilderness and heritage. Walk, relax, visit the peacocks, or dine in the wild and beautiful Cataract Gorge in the centre of Launceston or visit the nearby historic towns of Evandale and Longford.

Launceston is also the gateway to the north's famous wine route with its boutique cool-climate wineries and elegant vineyard restaurants, where you can meet with the growers and the makers.

The Tamar Valley Wine Route follows the majestic Tamar River as it meanders for 58 kilometres through the heart of high-yielding vineyard country, orchards, scenic pastures and forests from city to the shores of Bass Strait. The wine route is easy to travel by car, or if you prefer, take a guided half- or full-day tourClick to expand...
