澳洲Australia property Equivalent areas in different states/terr

在澳大利亚 I need some advice regarding a property purchase. Property - semi-detached house Bedrooms - 2 Condition - average needs internal reno to modernise Street - one of the best in suburb Location - excellent Close to schools - yes Transport - 50m The pool at of an IP needs to be resurfaced (or so the pool doctor says), the cost was estimated to be $10K ($10,000), after recoverying from my impresssion of a cat coughing up a fur ball, it just seems far too much. Its just a standard poo

Hi all

I live in Sydney and the areas are classified into the following. I have listed them from the most expensive to least expensive per sqm (I've just done this from my head, I have no evidence to back this up so please feel free to disagree).

East
Lower north shore
Inner west
CBD
Upper north shore
Northwest
South
West
Southwest

What are the equivalent areas in other States/Territories eg: which area in Sydney is Melbourne's west closest to?

I appreciate it must be very hard to make comparisons due to them myriad of different factors. If it is easier, I would be interested to see your list of areas in your State/Territory from the most expensive to least expensive per sqm.

Thanks!

Well I don't know about dollars per square metre etc but one easy match up is;

Rockingham, WA v Frankston, VIC. In Sydney there is nothing like either.

The two have exactly the same feel and in spite of their reputations I have never felt in danger in either place. i.e. there are far worse in both cities.

Edit:

Just thought of another:

Carlton ad surrounds in Vic v Balmain, NSW.

Edit 2, sorry I would disagree about inner west being above Upper North Shore and putting the CBD part way down the list will be pretty controversial!

Edit 3: For a Sydneysider Frankston and Rockingham would be as though everyone living in St Marys was suddenly transported to living in Narrabeen. Actually nopw I think about it Narrabeen is already pretty close... :)

I've only been up there a few times, but though further from the city, Gosford/Wyong felt like Frankston or Rockingham to me.

Some other very rough stabs (not having been to all)

Sydney's north-west (Bible Belt, McMansions, no train) = Melbourne's north-east and parts of outer East (eg Knox)

Sydney's north shore = Melbourne's eastern suburbs (leafy, private schools, Liberal), also Heidelberg/Ivanhoe (for leafiness), Perth's western suburbs north of river

Sydney's Penrith = Melbourne's Werribee (until recently largely Anglo) = Perth's Armadale or Kwinana

Cabramatta = St Albans/Sunshine/Springvale/Footscray = Perth's Balga?

Sydney's south-west = Dandenong/Noble Park/Doveton/Broadmeadows/Laverton?

Sydney's north west (business park) = Clayton/Monash precinct

Sydney's Redfern = Collingwood?

Sydney's Kings Cross = St Kilda = Northbridge

Sydney's Glebe = Melbourne's Brunswick = Fremantle?

Nice work. Absolutely agree now I think about it on parts of the central coast = Frankston etc. I had not thought of the central coast at all. I cannot wait to tell my wife that! She grew up there.

You could add to the Kings Cross = St Kilda = Northbridge = The Valley, QLD

I can speak with some authority on those areas too. ;)

I wonder if I can throw some other QLD ones in. I only lived their for 6 months but I would also add

Kangaroo Point, QLD in with Glebe etc but it has gone highrise too much in parts to be completely the same.

and Hamilton, QLD in with the leafy north shore suburbs of Syd, Toorak / Caulfield etc
