just wondering how this works and get the logistics of this.

i have a mortgage and im wanting to pay it off within 5 years and i im thinking of renting my house out next year

can i claim the rent at tax time?

you must claim the rent as income and you can claim any expenses of producing that rent as a deduction (eg interest).

i suspect your question is can i claim the repayments as a deduction? you can only claim the interest component. any payment of principal is not a deduction.
