在澳大利亚 The pool at of an IP needs to be resurfaced (or so the pool doctor says), the cost was estimated to be $10K ($10,000), after recoverying from my impresssion of a cat coughing up a fur ball, it just seems far too much. Its just a standard poo I need some advice regarding a property purchase. Property - semi-detached house Bedrooms - 2 Condition - average needs internal reno to modernise Street - one of the best in suburb Location - excellent Close to schools - yes Transport - 50m

Has anyone installed an electricity meter box for a townhouse that has a loft in Brisbane? The loft is situated above a garage and has its own separate entryway. If so how much did it cost and how did you go about getting it installed?

It is a 2 step process. First you get a regular sparkie to do the prep work. He will need to separate the power and install a sub-board in the loft.

Next he will arrange for a contractor that works for the electricity provider to come and install the meter in the meter box. This 2nd part is usually $500 or so. The 1st part you will need to get quoted for your particular set up.

Depends on how far you want to take it.
It is possible to just install a 1 pole meter that records the power usage in the board depending on the arrangement of circuits. You then take a reading every 3 months or so and work out the cost from the total bill for the house.

Otherwise as above with a new meter.

This assumes of course that the loft has separate power circuits to below. Depending on how it was wired you might find top and bottom share which them makes splitting it more complex.

You don't need a separate meter box, you need a separate meter in the existing box. Its called separation of supply.

Just get a sparkie to quote the whole lot.

Could this possibly work for the Solar power on an IP to get your money instead of giving it to tenants?:confused:

Putting in a physical separate meter is going to cost you another supply charge normally.
A solar on an IP would be taxible income possibly?
Given the way rebates are I would think putting a big system on your PPOR would create the best return.

I assume the existing box needs to have enough room for the new meter.

Can they connect to two different electricity provider if they want to? or do you need to subtract one meter reading from the other to get individual consumption?
