澳洲Australia property Safety of the fairer gender | Sydney

在澳大利亚 Hi Guys, Ive found a property that has mentioned two payments coming up of $1400 to apparently top up the admin fund and 2 have just been paid. Im looking at a financial statement (basically a balance sheet) for the strata and its all a bit Hi all, I currently have a PPOR and 10K cash in the bank which I plan to use as a deposit for a IP early next year. Is it possible for me to place this into my PPOR loan and then redraw the 10K when Im ready for the IP and then claim the int

Folks, is there anything to fear with the female gender doing renovations on her own?
Cheers,

Shaun,

The only thing to fear is that they might show us up by doing a better job than us.

As Effie in "Acropolis Now" would say "How Embarrasment Mate"

Nicely said Jakk.

Shaun, the only thing you should fear is if the fair lady you speak of, ever finds out you have been asking such questions on a forum such as this.

Double that if she is a redhead.

I think my request was taken a little out of context :)
I was thinking more of personal safety and the like.

Shaun,

Try rephrasing your question precisely before you really get hammered for sexism.

What safety are you talking about?

Simply being on a construction site
Lifting heavy objects
Using power tools

or the possibility of someone breaking into an obvious construction site to ravish the construction workers

Shaun,

I have had to edit my reply several times... so here goes

In last edition's API magazine, there was an article about a renovation, where the person doing the renovation was a woman (her offsider was a man) - but she put in more hours than him and did most of the work.

The question you should be asking is how much experience/enthusiasm is necessary for certain jobs and where are there basic references for what a person, without professional experience, can do - try the library. You might also take a trip to Bunnings - they have loads of DIY classes.

I can't believe in the 21st century this question is being asked.

Hi Shaun
Would suggest the fairer renovator get a "renovator dog". Comes in handy when you are operating noisy tools & someone just strolls in.
Also regular checking in with each other via mobile phone is helpful "Reno dog" will let her know if its ringing, if she falls off the ladder etc. "Reno dog" also very handy on large rats, don't laugh I had 2 big black rats at last reno.

Yes, I just found this post and I'm shaking my head too.

Mmmm, just thinking about how hacked off I was when I was up that ladder the other day, and my nail broke, and as I carefully climbed down the ladder (in my stiletto's) Oh god no! A run in my stockings! I swooned and had to have a little sip of sherry. As I powdered my nose, I realised my mascara had run and my hair was every so slightly messy.

But at least I didn't manage (within 10 minutes of walking in the new IP) manage to tip over a whole brand new 4 litre can of paint because I wasn't looking where I was going. TWICE!! That's what my MM (Mere Male) did. He's not going near the paint again.

:D :D :D

Yeh, but he's whinging hard out about that.

Well it's actually quite funny, and in a round about way I got my own way (well I usually do anyway). But he spilt it all over the lovely carpet (I've got my finger in my mouth trying to puke) that I hated but he thought we should keep down. And now he has to pull the carpet up in the lounge (first 4 litre can right in middle of floor) and the hallway (right in the middle - at least he's accurate!) Haha so now he's whinging even harder because he was hoping to do as little as possible.

Then at 10.30pm the other night, he's sitting here at home watching TV. Next minute he jumps up and says I"m going up to the house to pull the vinyl up in the kitchen". He comes back an hour and a half later, it's been glued directly to the floor, stuck like anything, and there's asbestos in it.

So here he is, itching all over, has to jump in the shower for about 1/2 an hour to get the itching to stop, and what did I say in the first place about the vinyl. I actually said there was nothing wrong with it and that we could probably get away with leaving it there.

But does he listen to me - NO!! So now he has to get all the asbestos off the floor before he can sand it. And before the "asbestos police" find out.:)

The time has come for me to explain myself and the reasons for this posting.
Life is not as rosy as it was 30 years ago when people didn't have a care in the world and you never locked your door at night when you went to bed.
One has to be at least concious of the fact that there is more crime and its naive to say 'But it will never happen to me'.
My question relates pretty much to what acey refered to..

Whether to 'ravish' or rob makes no difference to my question as I just wanted to get a feel forwhat people think on this subject.
Hope this has cleared these muddy waters...

Hey Queen bee,

I'll let you in on a funny story, but don't blame me if King Bee get's ideas...

I heard of a house where the carpet was just awful.. a really dark brown. Made the house look small and enclosed.

The house was being done up for sale and they didn't want to go to the expense of re-carpeting... so... (Wait for it) they PAINTED THE CARPET!!!

Yep

That's right...

they Painted the carpet cream.

The purchasers walked through and went.. Oh my gosh, they have painted the carpet, we will have to replace it... and that was about it!!

So, sometimes the funniest things happen. :)

And Refugee...

I understood what you meant from the beginning, and I guess it's just everyone's hope that it will never happen. But it does.
I liked Brenda's idea of a reno-dog.

hahah gosh that's incredible isnt it! Painting the carpet was wild but the reaction of the potential buyers was even funnier...

I have heard of windows painted over -but this is even better!!

wonder what other incredibly creative things the vendors did to the house! I bet it's full of little surprises,

thanks for the laugh Asy...

Shaun,

Looking beyond the issue that most people would consider yours a sexist attitude, security on any building site is always important regardless of gender.

It's important to have a mobile communications device (preferably with hotdial numbers programmed), someone who knows where you are & regular communications with them to ensure you are OK.

This offers reasonable security both against potential muggers and on-site accidents.

All I can say in answer to your question is that I believe that a woman is no more at risk on a building site then a man provided they take basic precautions & are conscious of the dangers of the site.

As to your safety after starting this thread...well, that's another story ;)

BTW: The world isn't becoming more dangerous, it is becoming safer, but with some small slips backwards on a yearly scale. How safe was the world 500 years ago?

Cheers,

Aceyducey

Hello
I heard a good saying on ABC last night (while renovating).
"Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astair did except backwards and in high heals"

MMMMMMM

Was it a Male or a female who painted the carpet???

Bet i can guess!!!!!!

I'm sure it wasn'rt the dumb blonde.

Shaun, you said Aceyducey's statements matched your concerns... so, as a female renovator here are my thoughts

Simply being on a construction site

Treat the tradies as professionals and expect (read insist) that in return.
Lifting heavy objects
Look up Aristotle and what he has to say about the power of leverage.

Small, but pertaint sideline. I used to ride motorbikes, and people expressed concern about my ability to pick the bike up if I dropped it. My reply was always "If I'm in the middle of nowhere and I drop my bike, I will manage to find a way to pick it up". Once I bought a bike in the morning and took it dirt track riding. I dropped my bike over a dozen times that day. The first time I picked it up, I was huffing and puffing and it took ages. By the end of the day my confidence and knowledge on how to pick that thing up meant I just grabbed and haulled with one hand.

Same weight, more tired person, but more knowledge and confidence too.

Using power tools
Get confidence in what you're doing. See sideline above.

or the possibility of someone breaking into an obvious construction site to ravish the construction workers
touch base with someone reguraly if that's a worry for you.

In general, set up a system.
