More than 100 children are believed to have been exposed to tuberculosis at a childcare centre in Sydney's east over a six month period.

Parents of children who attend Little Feet Early Learning and Childcare in Waverley received an email on Friday saying their children may have been exposed to the disease.

'The risk that TB disease may have spread to children is low, and children do not pose any risk to their families or others,' the email, which was seen by Nine News, read.

'NSW Health is taking precautions to screen children for TB exposure and offer presentative antibiotics.'

'Sometimes there is no spread at all, sometimes we find a handful of people who have caught the infection,' South Eastern Sydney Public Health Unit director Dr. Vicky Sheppeard said.

'We won't know for sure if there has been any spread of infection until we go back in November.'
