办公室不能中文I just made a call to IMMI this morning.

Background: My dad is holding 676 visa, no 8503, 1 year multi-entry with maximum 3 months stay once, which will not be expired untill Apr next year. He entered OZ this Spet and is going to depart OZ during upcoming Chinese new year, then back OZ again.
1- Best date to submit extension is about 2 weeks early before your visa expired.
2. If visa extension submitted and approved, we can't keep multi-entry visa any more. We will get single entry visa only.
3- if you wanna extend more than 6 months, please submit by mail or in person.
4- The whole stay in OZ is up to 12 months.
So personally the solution might be follow multi-entry policy properly. Then apply for visa extension in Mar to Apr next year for extra couple of months stay.
Up to now that might be the best solution in my mind combined flexibility and maximun stay in OZ together.

具体说就是比如我家四月拿到签证，次年四月签证过期，九月才登录澳洲那么我觉得既不浪费多次往返又能呆到时间最长的方式就是，12月3月出境两次，在四月签证过期前两周当面递交申请延期最多到九月。如果在第一次出境前12月申请延期，那好处是省钱，坏处是把好好的多次往返改称了单次。不知道我讲清楚了伐。。。
对了，因为我家本来就打算2月春节回国的，所以提前申请延期不合算。
