Contributory parent category processing arrangements

In the 2013–14 Migration Program year, 6675 Contributory Parent visa places are available for applicants applying from in and outside Australia.

Based on current planning levels if you are a new Contributory Parent visa applicant, you can expect to wait 12 to 24 months before visa grant consideration, depending on your circumstances. As current migration planning levels sufficiently cater for demand for these visas and the Contributory Parent visa is currently not subject to queuing arrangements, you will not be provided with a queue date.

If you are applying for Contributory Parent visa, you should note that processing times can vary. It is important that you ensure you have funds available for the second visa application charge at all times during the application process, as payment may be required at an earlier date than was anticipated at the time of visa application lodgement.

The parent category includes both the Parent (non-contributory) and the Contributory Parent visas.

Parent (non-contributory) visa applications have a lower processing priority than other visas in the family stream such as partners, children and contributory parent visas.

In the 2013–14 Migration Program year:

2250 places have been allocated to Parent (non-contributory) visas, including approximately 1700 places for Parent (subclass 103) visas and approximately 550 places for Aged Parent (subclass 804) visas.
6675 places have been allocated to Contributory Parent visas (subclasses 173/143 and subclasses 884/864).
The final proportion of places allocated between applicants applying in and outside Australia in both Parent visas types (contributory and non-contributory) is dependent on a number of factors, including client response times.
