今天拿到case ，case 2 的 death of IPod，我看了2次，都不知道case想表达什么？大家觉得哪个理论来分析呢？ 本人觉得四不像,不是 external enironment， internal environment, product and market , leadership.
大家觉得应该用什么理论呢？谢谢

industry 应该是music Industry 似乎整个case一直在讲ipod 但ipod只是device或者说媒体而已。其实一直在讲M usic~ 第一段 dr Alice Enders , a former senior ....... Who now report s on global market for media consultancy . 第五段子apple announcedm it was launching an MP3......"why music?" jobs asked ...... He suggest music was something toUch everyone " it is a large market ..."
觉得可以考第四product and market development 的ansoff matrix - 个人觉得是diversification apple 是个电脑公司 jobs 运用iPod 和"digital harbour" strategy 把apple带入了 music industry
H还可以考第二章remote environment eg : technology change -cd to ditial mp3 书上例题quetion2.4 ;market factor - mobile download vs buy cd .;social factors " what is on your iPod?" associated market iPod enabled toilet roll

我也觉得应该用TEMPLES, 尤其是 technology, economy,market,social factors是重点。with Ansoff product-market matrix, I am still not sure if it is new product or diversification.
It also mentioned other competitors had chances to create the same business model, but they missed the window of the chance. So it was good timing for apple.
And I thought about solution strategy. See page 4.16, do you think is the digital hub strategy as a solution strategy?

do you think Rumelt's evaluation criteria will be tested for this case? also for leadership, what aspect do u think be involved? types of leadership? the rold of leader?

To be honest, I just brefily read this case. It looks like Rumelt will be tested.
However before we start thinking about Rumelt, do we need to use Ansoff matrix to find out the strategic option first? I will go for 'Diversification', then use Rumelt's criteria.
for M6, my opinion is APPLE is at a shake-out stage when Jobs took over the company. So, his strategic leadership style, Kotter's 8 step for leading org change will probably be tested? What do you say?

agree,
more likely a diversification strategy, apple used it's existing capabilities to enter the new market (music) with a new product (ipod, or more importantly itune store), then the product life cycle of it, as it started to decline over the launch of iphone and ipad.
for the leadership part, the case did mention jobs and other names here and there, but i dont think the info is sufficient to analyze much on strategic leadership. remember only use the facts given in the case as if you dont any background stories about ipod and jobs at all.
any ideas?

Apple should be within the media deive industry, and diversified into music industry through the lodgement of Itunes store. what you guys think?

1. life cycle will be examed for sure, but not sure about for music or device. guess music.
2. M2 is related to this case, temples is the point.
3. m4, nothing, all points is be used for case1.
