Does anyone know what happened with Tigo and the concerns from MCElectrical that they don't work unless connected to the controller and the internet?

Nope none at all – unless you lose power as they then drop off the air – the issue is that once the firmware is done you have to have the CCA and TAP online – otherwise the Optimizers go into rapid disconnect mode and produce no power

interesting that installers are still blatantly providing these. I am in a few solar groups on Facebook and yea i do warn any people to get the extra modules asking about optimizers in quotes.
Even if you dont install them, you have no idea what they are doing and can only guess
