Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton attended a federal cabinet meeting on Tuesday, only days before he was diagnosed with coronavirus.
But despite the face-to-face interaction, the Prime Minister’s Office has moved swiftly to assure no members of the cabinet or the PM himself are at risk of contracting the virus.
In a statement issued shortly after the news of Dutton’s diagnosis broke, a spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office said appropriate tracing on Dutton’s contacts would take place.
“The Minister attended Tuesday’s meeting of the Federal Cabinet in person and Thursday’s meeting of the National Security Committee via video link,” the spokesman said.
However, after speaking with Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said there was low possibility of him passing on the virus.
“In advice provided to the Prime Minister this evening, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer has reiterated that only people who had close contact with the Minister in the preceding 24 hours before he became symptomatic need to self-isolate.
“That does not include the Prime Minister or any other members of the cabinet.”

Dutton was diagnosed with coronavirus on Friday afternoon after he woke up with a temperature and a sore throat.
In a statement, he said: “I feel fine and will provide an update in due course.”
The 49-year-old has been hospitalised in accordance with Queensland Health’s coronavirus protocol.

Dutton is one of 35 confirmed virus cases in Queensland.
Eight new cases were reported in the state overnight.
He had recently travelled to the United States to meet Trump administration officials regarding data encryption laws
