澳洲前总理霍华德在悉尼的一家医院已经做了阑尾手术。
9号台了解到，今天早些时候在患了阑尾炎后，这位前总理被送到了悉尼皇家北岸私立医院， 现在已经完成了手术，霍华德今年81岁。
早先报道， 霍华德先生到医院是进行例行检查， 与新冠病毒无关。
霍华德办公室的一个发言人对9号台说，不用担心他的健康， 手术后他“正在良好恢复中。”
霍华德是澳洲的第25位总理，在1996-2007年任职， 是国家领导人中第二个任期最长的人。
1985-1989 年间他是自由党的领袖， 再次于1995-2007担任该党领袖。
霍华德领导的政府连续4次赢得大选， 2007年被陆克文领导的工党击败。
在任职期间，1996年在亚瑟港（Port Arthur）发生了大屠杀，他实施了澳洲历史上枪支管制法，也实施了商品服务税（GST），这两件事使他名垂青史。
去年在庆祝80岁生日的时候， 在家外面进行习惯性的散步时，他对9号台说， 他还活着感到幸福。

Former prime minister John Howard undergoes appendicitis operation
Former Australian Prime Minister John Howard has undergone an operation in a Sydney hospital.
9News understands the 81-year-old was taken into Sydney's Royal North Shore Private Hospital earlier today and has since been operated on after suffering appendicitis.
It was earlier reported that Mr Howard's hospitalisation had been for routine health tests and not related to COVID-19.
A spokesperson for Mr Howard's office also told 9News there is no concern for his health and that he is "recovering well" after the procedure.
Mr Howard served as Australia's 25th prime minister between 1996 and 2007 — the second-longest term in office held by a national leader.
He was leader of the Liberal Party from 1985 to 1989 and again from 1995 to 2007.
Governments led by Mr Howard went on to win four consecutive elections before being defeated by Kevin Rudd's Labor Party in 2007.
The former prime minister is renowned for his actions while in office on enforcing Australia's historic gun laws following the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre and the implementation of the GST.
In marking his 80th birthday last year, Mr Howard told 9News he was happy to be alive while on his customary walk outside his Sydney home.
