在过去的5年间，（新州）共发生101起严重车祸与驾车者酒驾同时毒驾有关。这些车祸导致98人死亡以及52人重伤。
车祸数据表明，如果驾车者同时受到酒精和毒品的影响，发生车祸的可能性要高出23倍。

Warning signs for mobile speed cameras will be scrapped as part of a crackdown on lead-foot drivers.
The move will get rid of portable warning signs stationed 250m and 50m in advance of mobile speed cameras that until now warned motorists to slow down.
The government believes scrapping the mobile speed camera warning signs over the next 12 months will increase the general deterrence against speeding, in the same way unmarked mobile phone detection cameras have deterred drivers texting behind the wheel.
One in every 82 drivers were spotted using their phones while driving before the introduction of unmarked mobile phone detection cameras, but the fear of getting caught has seen the rate of texting drivers plummet to just one in every 454.
“No warnings signs mean you can be caught anywhere, any time and we want that same culture around mobile speed cameras,” Transport Minister Andrew Constance said.
“This is about changing culture and changing behaviour.”
Removing the warning signs for mobile speed cameras may save between 34 and 43 lives and prevent around 600 serious injuries in NSW each year, according to independent modelling by the Monash University Accident Research Centre.
Warning signs will remain in place ahead of fixed speed cameras that are typically positioned at black spots or high risk stretches of road, where it is particularly important drivers slow down.
In sweeping reforms to NSW road rules, the government will also introduce a new offence combining drink and drug driving that will attract harsher penalties from next year.
Drivers caught high range drink driving with drugs in their system will now face up to $11,000 and three years in prison for their second and subsequent offences.
The government expects the new combined offence will make it easier for judges to throw the book at drunk and drugged drivers, rather than dealing with the charges separately.
In the past five years there have been 101 serious crashes involving drivers or riders with illegal levels of alcohol and illicit drugs in their system. The crashes caused 98 deaths and 52 serious injuries.
Crash data has proved drivers are 23 times more likely to have a crash if they are under the influence of both alcohol and drugs.
The government is hoping the new measures will whittle down a stubbornly high road toll, which has not dropped below 347 since 2015 despite major advances in car safety.
