Perth: Billy Slater has been forced to apologise to the family of Paul Green after referencing the late Queensland coach during an emotional State of Origin press conference on Tuesday.
Slater has come under fire after referencing Green on Tuesday during a press conference in Perth, when answering a question about being called a “grub” by former NSW forward Aaron Woods in the lead-up to Wednesday’s second game.
Slater implied Green had taken his own life in 2022 as a result of the pressures of coaching and public criticism, which prompted a strong backlash on Wednesday morning.
Green’s family insisted the 49-year-old suffered with chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
Just hours before Queensland’s attempt to save the Origin series against NSW at Optus Stadium, Slater called a press conference to apologise for the mention of绿色。
