Important changes to the way ATM fees are charged
ATM Reform
Effective 3 March 2009*, the Reserve Bank of Australia together with the ATM industry is changing the way ATM fees are charged.
These changes are designed to give cardholders more control over ATM fees by making all charges more transparent.
On 3 March, ATM cash withdrawals and balance enquiries conducted at a 'foreign ATM'** may be subject to the new ATM Operator Fee.

What will ATM Reform mean for HSBC cardholders?
Currently (i.e. prior to the ATM Reform becoming effective 3 March 2009), HSBC cardholders are not charged ATM fees when they use an HSBC ATM. This will not change.
HSBC cardholders are currently able to conduct a number of foreign ATM transactions without incurring a foreign ATM transaction fee, depending on the specific product held (e.g. HSBC Online Savings Account holders can make 5 non-HSBC ATM transactions per month without incurring foreign ATM transaction fees). This will change under ATM Reform.
In response, as part of HSBC's commitment to our customers, we are delighted to advise that all HSBC cardholders will enjoy unlimited ATM transactions without incurring an ATM Operator Fee at ALL HSBC or Westpac branded*** ATMs nationally.
That means as an HSBC cardholder, you will have access to over 1,800 ATMs across the country where you won't be charged any ATM Operator Fees.
