Victorian emergency services were kept busy overnight, receiving more than 200 calls in the past 24 hours as wild winds lashed the state.
By 6am, the SES said they had responded to about 150 calls across Victoria reporting trees that had come down.
Volunteer crews had received 33 calls about building damage.
“The impact was evenly spread,” a SES spokesman said.
The Emerald unit responded to 12 calls, the Knox unit responded to 12 calls and the Ballarat unit responded to 11 calls.
At the same time, Melburnians tossed and turned through the warmest night since March 29.
The overnight temperature only dropped to 18.8C, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
Winds in metropolitan Melbourne overnight reached 100kmh at Melbourne airport, 93kmh at Essendon and 83kmh at St Kilda.
“We had some pretty significant winds overnight,” senior meteorologist Richard Russell said.
“The strongest intensity has passed but it will remain windy for the morning. The severe weather warning is still current.”
Mr Russell said Melbourne would experience much lighter winds as the day progressed.
Cloud coverage will continue to thicken and a brief band of showers will move through the city this afternoon.
The weather will drop from 21C and fall to the mid-teens.
The wind is set to linger through the morning before easing off in the early afternoon.
The conditions came after a balmy Monday that bathed the state in sun and saw Melbourne reach a top of 22.7C — the warmest day in months.
Meanwhile, firefighters are battling an out-of-control bushfire that started near Ballarat west of Melbourne overnight.
An advice message has been issued for the blaze, which has burnt through 5ha about 10km south of Buninyong.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning said the fire had burnt through five hectares of grass and scrub along the Leigh River in inaccessible terrain.
Two crews monitored the blaze overnight due to the strong winds.
“The fire is expected to be contained later today,” Deputy Chief Fire Officer Tony English said. “The cause is believed to be an escaped private land burn-off.”
Vic Emergency said the bushfire was travelling from near River Rd, Grenville in a southerly direction towards Mt Mercer.
They said there was currently no threat to communities but residents should continue to stay informed an monitor conditions.
The advice message has been issued for Cargerie, Elaine, Enfield, Grenville and Mount Mercer.
