这种特色话翻译出来给谁听？中国人要听的是中国话，澳洲人的常用语里面没有这样一句，你就算硬翻出来人家也不明白你是什么意思

这只是个小练习啊。不过，国内的翻译导师，都擅长拿这种中国特色的句子，来考核自己的学生的，因为要有点儿中文和英文的基础知识，才可以翻译的恰到好处。
如果温总理对奥巴马说了这句谚语，估计他旁边的翻译，也是必须翻出来的。
他不可以告诉温总理，“就算我翻成再好的英文，奥巴马也是理解不了的；你就不能说点容易翻译的东西吗？”

我google了所有的使用“no credit for the elbow grease”的文章(其中包括你引用的段落)，每一篇文章都是中国人/中国文化背景的人在使用这个短语。所以，我不认为这个短语是老外的习语，也同样是中国人的翻译。不过，已经很好了。
还找了这样一句话，供大家参考 "I have no credit for the elbow grease, no elbow grease also has fatigue" 后半句，可以达意，但是主谓宾语不是那么搭配的。

我做口译的时候，遇到这种话，都是译个大意而已。比如有次碰到客户说“我胸有成竹”，匆忙间只能大概译为I have had a well formed plan in mind
这是我个人的情况，温总的翻译，那是牛人中的牛人了
