asking the question for a friend:
arrived Australia on 5 May. not seeing a job till end of this financial year. all the possible income will be from deposit instrests only. which will be hundred dollars by the end of June. Does he still need to lodge the tax returen? or no need to do so becuase the income is below $6000??
please help. thanks!

if u do not have tax witheld on that income, do not need lodge.
but better lodge tax return with no hassle in future

There is no need to lodge unless there is tax withheld, what you can do is, you can lodge a return not required form/CU form(basically notifying the ATO that you don't have to lodge for the year)
